A new trailer for the Marvel film “Eternals” clarifies the question of why the immortal heroes did not fight Thanos.

There is a detailed trailer for the new Marvel flick “Eternals” – and thus it is also certain when the story takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the short foretaste of the superhero flick, which will be released in November, Salma Hayek (54) can be seen as Ajak at the beginning.

She tells Ikaris (Richard Madden, 35) about the blip. “Five years ago Thanos wiped out half the population of the universe, but the people on this planet brought them all back – with the snap of a finger,” she says with a sigh, alluding to the ending of “Avengers: Endgame” – which apparently has more consequences had than thought.

Deviants are back

“The sudden return of the population provided the necessary energy for the beginning of the emergence,” explains Ajak, whereupon Ikaris asks: “How long have we got?” Your answer: “Seven days.” Apparently the events in “Endgame” brought back the Deviants, against whom the mighty Eternals now go into battle. Some of the monstrous creatures can already be admired in the clip. Angelina Jolie (46) alias Thena also has to deal with a Deviant in it. In several scenes, Ikaris fights against the opponents of the Eternals with his laser eyes.

Directed by Chloé Zhao (39, “Nomadland”), “Eternals” is about progressive, immortal, extraterrestrial beings who were created by the Celestials and who have lived secretly on earth for thousands of years. As Gemma Chan’s (38) character Sersi explains in the action-packed trailer, the Eternals came to earth to protect people from the Deviants.

The trailer also answers another important question: if the Eternals are so powerful and have been on Earth all these years, why didn’t they intervene before? Dane Whitman, played by Kit Harington (34), asks in one scene: “Why didn’t you help against Thanos? Or in other wars, in all the terrible events in our history?” – “We have been instructed not to intervene in human conflicts unless deviants are involved,” explains Sersi …
