Ethereum: Coinbase plans public launch of Base for August 9

This afternoon, news reached our ears. The public launch of Base, Coinbase’s layer 2, is now scheduled for August 9th. This initiative will allow access to DeFi for exchange users, thus confirming the position of Base as L2 of Ethereum.

According to information from our colleagues at The Block, the bridge (bridge) connecting the Basic network To Ethereum is already operational. Until now, this layer 2 was only accessible to developers since July 13, but from August 9, access will be open to the general public, a confirmation provided by Jesse Pollack, head of protocols at Coinbase.

Ultimately, the protocol aims to address a wide audience, and allow regular Coinbase users to explore DeFi. However, note that the controversy and the hustle and bustle around the memecoin BALD have somewhat stained the reputation of the L2 even before it went public.
