Ethereum: Matter Labs opens the doors of the zkSync Era mainnet to developers

The race for zkEVM heats up – Faced with major congestion problems inEthereum, many second-layer solutions have emerged. Among them, we find the project zkSync developped by Matter Labs. The project has just shifted to a new gear and becomes zkSync Era.

zkSync 2.0 becomes zkSync Era

As indicated by his name, zkSync is a second layer solution of type zkRollup. Consequently, it is developing a zkEVM in parallel with its network, in order to be able to host decentralized applications. As a reminder, the zkEVM are an essential brick for zkRollup.

After several months of work, the Matter Labs teams have announced that they have taken a major step. Indeed, these have opened the doors of their zkEVM to developers.

Indeed, the process of opening its zkEVM, called Fair Onboarding Alpha, was launched. This one allows registered projects to deploy on the mainnet. On this occasion, Matter Lab, wanted to thank its community for its unfailing support throughout this adventure.

“Today we are taking another big step towards Ethereum scalability. We have arrived at the Fair Onboarding Alpha, where we welcome projects that have registered to launch on zkSync Era. Onboarding is designed to be fair. Thus, we welcome projects registered at the same time, giving all teams an equal chance to deploy. »

Moreover, in parallel with the launch of the mainnet, zkSync 2.0 was renamed to zkSync Era. For its part, the old version zkSync 1.0 has been renamed zkSync Lite.

zkSync 2.0 becomes zkSync Era.

However, the mainnet will remain closed to end users during this phase. This allows teams to deploy and test their applications in a closed environment before the system is opened to external users.

Matter Labs opens its source code

The other major news lies in the opening of the source code of zkSync Era. In effect, Matter Labs has announced that it is now completely open source.

In practice, all the sources have been opened under the MIT/Apache 2.0 license.

“We are happy to announce that zkSync Era is free and open source software, as promised, under the MIT/Apache 2.0 license. Our zkEVM has been live on testnet for over a year and on mainnet since October, and has been through many tests and audits. We are now confident that his code is ready for the public eye and would love to hear suggestions from our community. »

Thus, all the bricks that make up zkSync Era are now open source. This includes the smart contractsTHE sequencerTHE prover And the GPU accelerator.

This makes zkSync one of the first second-layer solutions to open source code for its sequencer and prover.

Last November, Matter Labs completed a $200 million fundraiser. In total, the company has already raised more than $600 million for its second layer solution.
