The Ethiopian government confirmed that fighting resumed on Wednesday August 24 in northern Ethiopia between the federal army and rebels in the Tigray region, accusing the latter of having “broken» the truce in force for five months.
“Ignoring the numerous peace offers presented by the Ethiopian government“, the rebel forces of Tigray “launched an attack today at 05:00(04:00) in an area south of Tigray and have “broke the truce“, indicates the government in a press release.

The Ethiopian army announced on Wednesday that it had shot down a plane loaded with weapons intended for the rebels in Tigray, which hadviolated Ethiopian airspaceafter flying over Sudan, reports the official Ethiopian news agency ENA, citing a senior officer. “The plane which violated our airspace from Sudan (…) and which aimed to supply weapons to the terrorist group was shot down by our air force“Says the ENA, quoting General Tesfaye Ayalew, who did not specify either the origin of the aircraft or the date on which it was shot down.
