The Sicilian volcano spewed out jets of lava and large plumes of smoke overnight from Thursday to Friday.
Etna will have waited until February to offer its first show of the year 2022. The Sicilian volcano, whose activity has been on the upswing since January 31, erupted overnight from Thursday to Friday. In the starry sky, it was possible to see jets of lava and a column of smoke rising more than 8 kilometers high.
Magnificent photos were taken from the town of Nicolosi, near Catania. According to the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the activity was concentrated around the southeast crater of the volcano, at about 2900 meters above sea level.
