EU brings app for summer vacation: Will everyone need this smartphone app soon?

With the falling incidence figures, free travel without border controls is once again possible in most EU member states. However, a wide variety of corona rules currently still apply in every EU country. What is allowed and what is not? The EU bundles all information for summer holidays within the EU in the “Re-Open Europe” app. And when the digital vaccination record arrives, the app could perhaps become even more important.

Can I travel to France? Do I have to wear a mask in Italy? Is there a Corona app in Austria? With such questions, reaching for the cell phone should help with immediate effect.

The “Re-open EU” app The EU Commission provides up-to-date information on the health situation, safety precautions or travel restrictions, for all EU countries and the members of the Schengen area, which is free of border controls, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Users can also find out about national quarantine and test rules as well as warning and tracking apps. The app can be used for Android and Apple devices and provides information in the 24 official EU languages.

Re-open EU: Why the app will soon become even more important

Within the EU, in addition to the identity card (or passport), the digital green ID card is the most important entry and exit document from mid-June at the latest. The EU probably also wants the digital vaccination certificate in its own app “Re-open EU“The app can then be installed, by the way, just like the planned one CovPass app or the Corona warning app, as a display app for the digital proof of vaccination.

By integrating the vaccination certificate, such an app should make it easier to cross national borders in pandemic times in the future. Travelers then only need to show the forgery-proof QR code in the app to confirm that they are either fully vaccinated or tested negative.

Users of the “Re-open-EU” app can find out whether the airport is open at the travel destination, whether there is public transport, in which situations face masks are required or how many people they are allowed to meet there.

The classifications of all countries according to the colors of the Corona traffic light can be seen on an interactive map. You can also find all the information about whether restaurants or cafés are open, for example.
