EU Environment Agency – Klagenfurt has the cleanest air in Austria


“The fact that Klagenfurt is the city with the cleanest air in Austria shows that we have a high quality of life and that the heart of the Alps-Adriatic region has the cleanest lungs,” said Mayor Christian Scheider, delighted with the outstanding result of a Europe-wide study the EU Environment Agency.

A total of 323 European cities in 26 countries of the European Union were examined by the EU environmental authority for their air quality, in particular for particulate matter values. Klagenfurt appears in the ranking as the best Austrian city. Particularly noteworthy as Klagenfurt is not necessarily favored with its pelvic location.

As far as air quality is concerned, the city has been taking active measures to improve it for many years. Numerous initiatives, including EU projects, aimed to optimize the air quality in Klagenfurt. The expansion of district heating has certainly contributed to improving air quality, according to experts.
