EU expresses ‘great concern’ over Russian military activity near Ukraine

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, on Sunday April 4 pledged the support “Unwavering” Union (EU) in Kiev and expressed concern over Russian troop movements around Ukraine.

“We are following with great concern Russian military activity around Ukraine”Mr Borrell tweeted after a phone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

“EU’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, he added.

Troop movements

Mr Borrell said he would meet with Ukraine’s foreign minister and foreign ministers from the 27 EU countries at a meeting in April.

Ukraine this week accused Russia of massing troops on its northern and eastern borders as well as on the Crimean peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014. The Kremlin has not denied the recent troop movements, but has insisted on it. make it “Did not threaten anyone”.

The conflict has claimed more than 13,000 lives since 2014, according to the United Nations. Western leaders – including new US President Joe Biden – have said they stand with Ukraine.
