BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Representatives of government health authorities from the EU-27 are due to discuss on Wednesday a coordinated Europe-wide response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in China, the Swedish presidency said on Monday. Council of the European Union.

“A meeting of the integrated system for a reaction at the political level in crisis situations (IPCR, Integrated political crisis response in English-Editor’s note) is scheduled for Wednesday January 4 to take stock of the evolution of the situation of the epidemic of COVID-19 in China and discuss possible measures to be taken in a coordinated manner at EU level,” said a spokeswoman for the Swedish rotating presidency, which began on Sunday.

A previous meeting last Thursday by videoconference between around a hundred representatives of the governments of the Twenty-Seven, European health agencies, the European Commission and the World Health Organization (WHO) had not made it possible to define new common measures for the block scale.

Since that date, Italy, which was then the only one to have implemented controls for travelers from China, has notably been joined in this approach by Spain and France.
