BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission has opened an infringement procedure against the social network Tiktok, under the European Digital Services Regulation (DSA), to assess the efforts made by the platform to protect minors, according to a document accessed by Reuters.

“The protection of minors is a priority for the application of the DSA. As a platform that reaches millions of children and adolescents, TikTok must fully comply with the DSA and has a particular role to play in the protection of minors in line,” said European Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton, according to the document.

This is the second investigation carried out within the framework of the European regulation on digital services after that opened against X (formerly Twitter), suspected of failing to fulfill its obligations, particularly in the fight against disinformation.

Tiktok, owned by ByteDance, risks a fine of up to 6% of its turnover.
