Eurazeo: launch of an environmental impact fund – 05/23/2024 at 09:25

(CercleFinance.com) – Eurazeo announced on Thursday the launch of an impact fund dedicated to environmental issues and inspired by the concept of ‘planetary boundaries’ established by an international team of researchers.

Imagined in 2009 by the Stockholm Resilience Center (SRC), the concept of the nine planetary boundaries is intended to measure the impact of human activities on the planetary ecosystem.

These vital processes, such as climate change, loss of biodiversity or change in land use, are supposed to determine the resilience and stability of the Earth system.

The private equity group specifies that the fund, called ‘Eurazeo Planetary Boundaries Fund (EPBF)’, will have a target amount of at least 750 million euros.

It mainly plans to invest in European SMEs in sectors such as agriculture and food, waste and packaging, water management, low-carbon energy and transport services.

Eurazeo plans to work with a committee of experts, who will be responsible for providing strategic direction and impact-focused advice.

This body will notably be composed of Hans Bruyninckx, former director of the European Environment Agency, Laurent Gilbert, former director of sustainable innovation at L’Oréal and Pia Heidenmark Cook, the former head of sustainable development at Ikea.
