France and the Netherlands were unable to decide between themselves and drew (0 – 0). Despite opportunities on both sides, the two teams did not score a single goal, this being the first match of the competition where neither team managed to find the net. The Tricolores were scared by Xavi Simons’ offside goal (69th), canceled due to an illegal position by Denzel Dumphries, hampering Mike Maignan. Antoine Griezmann benefited from two opportunities to open the scoring, but was unable to convert them. For his part, the French goalkeeper was heroic in repelling several Dutch attempts. The Netherlands and France retain 1st and 2nd place in Group D respectively.
