Euro zone: Brussels sharply increases its inflation forecast for 2023 to 6.1%

The rise in prices will peak at the end of this year 2022, before gradually receding.

The European Commission on Friday revised its inflation forecast for the euro zone for 2023 sharply up to 6.1%, against only 4% expected so far, but it estimates that the rise in prices will peak at the end. of this year 2022 before retreating.

For the year 2022, Brussels is also counting on higher inflation than expected at 8.5%, against 7.6% expected previously, due in particular to the surge in energy prices linked to the war in Ukraine. Inflation should however decline in 2023, after peaking at the end of 2022, the Commission estimated in a press release.
