Euro zone: inflation confirmed at 2.8% in January


(CercleFinance.com) – The annual inflation rate of the euro zone stood at 2.8% in January 2024, compared to 2.9% in December, and that of the European Union at 3.1% after 3.4%, according to Eurostat which therefore confirms its rapid estimate for the euro zone.

The lowest annual rates were observed in Denmark, Italy (0.9% each), Latvia, Lithuania and Finland (1.1%) and the highest were recorded in Romania (7 .3%), Estonia (5%) and Croatia (4.8%).

In the euro area, the largest contributions to the annual inflation rate came from services (+1.73 percentage points, pp), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (+1.13 pp), industrial goods excluding energy (+0.53 pp) and energy (-0.62 pp).
