Euro zone: Retail sales decline in April


(CercleFinance.com) – In April compared to the previous month, the seasonally adjusted retail sales volume decreased by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU, according to Eurostat , after respective increases of 0.7% and 0.6% in March.

In the euro zone, it decreased in April by 0.5% for the food, drinks and tobacco sector, by 0.1% for non-food products (excluding fuels) and by 2.2% for fuels in stores specialized.

In the EU, the largest monthly declines were recorded in Latvia (-3.3%), Cyprus (-3.1%) and Denmark (-2.7%) and the largest increases in Slovakia (+2.4%), in Bulgaria and Austria (+1.9% each), as well as in Portugal (+1.7%).
