PARIS, Sept 2 (Reuters) – Eurozone producer price inflation continued to accelerate in July both monthly and annually, Eurostat data showed on Friday.
Producer prices in the 19 countries sharing the euro increased by 4.0% over one month and 37.9% over one year in July after respective gains of 1.3% and 36.0% the previous month ( revised figures).
The Reuters consensus was expecting an increase of 2.5% and 35.8% respectively.
This new increase is mainly due to the 9.0% jump in energy prices after a 3.0% increase in June. Over one year, energy costs soared by 97.2% against a rise of 93.2% in June.
Excluding this volatile component, producer prices rose in July by 0.6% month on month and 15.1% year on year.
