(Reuters) – The unemployment rate in the euro zone fell in January to 6.4% of the working population, in line with consensus, according to official data published on Friday by Eurostat.

This is the lowest rate reached since the data was collected. The unemployment rate also reached 6.4% in July and August 2023, before increasing slightly.

This percentage can be compared with a rate of 6.5% (revised from 6.4%) in December and 6.6% in January 2023.

According to the statistical office of the European Union, 11.009 million people were unemployed in January in the 20 countries sharing the euro, or 34,000 people fewer than in December.
