(CercleFinance.com) – The unemployment rate in the euro zone remained unchanged in January at 6.7%, still at its lowest levels since the beginning of 2008, show statistics published Thursday by Eurostat.
This apparent stability, however, masks a sharp decline in the unemployment rate from one year to the next, since it stood at 6.9% in January 2022, specifies the European statistical office.
Eurostat estimates that in January nearly 11.29 million people were unemployed in the eurozone, down 220,000 year-on-year.
The EU-wide unemployment rate also remained stable month-on-month at 6.1%, although down markedly from the 6.3% rate recorded in January 2022.
