  • The Serbs secured their first EURO participation on the last matchday of European Championship qualification Group G thanks to a 2-2 draw against Bulgaria.
  • Portugal also wins the 10th game in Group J. Luxembourg and Slovakia also win.
  • The Spaniards maintain first place in Group A thanks to a home win against Georgia.
  • In Group F, Romelu Lukaku shoots the already qualified Belgium against Azerbaijan to win the group.

Group G: Serbia qualified

One point was enough for Serbia on the last qualifying matchday to secure participation in the European Championship. Coach Dragan Stojkovic’s team solved this task with a 2-2 draw in the home game in Leskovac against Bulgaria. This is the first time that Serbia has qualified for the European Championship finals as an independent country. Milos Veljkovic gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute. Georgi Rusev (59th) and Kiril Despodov (69th) temporarily turned the game around for Bulgaria. Srdjan Babic managed the much-celebrated equalizer in the 82nd minute.

  • Hungary – Montenegro 3:1

Montenegro still had a chance of qualifying before the last matchday, but had to rely on a Serbia defeat to do so. In their last chance game, the Montenegrins took the lead in the 36th minute through Slobodan Rubezic away from the already qualified Hungarians. The hosts then turned the game around thanks to a brace from Dominik Szoboszlai (67th/68th) and a late goal from Zsolt Nagy. Given that Serbia won points against Bulgaria, even a win would not have helped Montenegro. Meanwhile, the Hungarians won the group perfectly.

Group J: Portugal flawless

The Portuguese finished the European Championship qualification with a clean slate. Coach Roberto Martinez’s team easily defeated Iceland 2-0 in Lisbon thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes (37′) and Ricardo Horta (66′) and ended the campaign with a maximum of 30 points. The Portuguese’s goal difference is also impressive. They scored 36 goals in the 10 games and only conceded two.

The Liechtensteiners also missed the last opportunity to win a point. Against Luxembourg they were able to have the majority from the 5th minute onwards. Danel Sinani was shown an early red card for a hard foul. However, Liechtenstein was unable to capitalize on this advantage. On the contrary: in the 69th minute, Gerson Rodrigues shot Luxembourg to victory.

The Slovaks, who had already qualified, completed the qualification with their 7th victory. Away at Bosnia-Herzegovina they won 2-1 after being 1-0 down. Robert Bozenik scored in the 52nd minute to make it 1-1. After a yellow-red card against Bosnia’s Renato Gojkovic, Lubomir Satka secured Slovakia’s victory.

Group A: Spain celebrates group victory

The Spaniards didn’t let their group victory be taken away from them on the last match day. In the home game against Georgia, the Iberians ultimately achieved a problem-free 3-1 win. In the meantime, however, they repeatedly despaired of the strong guest keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who made several strong saves. Thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres (55th) and an own goal from Luka Lochoshvili (72nd), Spain still won after a 1-1 draw at the break.

Scotland and Norway, who had already qualified, had an open exchange of blows in Glasgow. The Scandinavians took the lead twice, but had to concede the equalizer each time. After the break, Stuart Armstrong shot the Scots into the lead for the first time (59′). Mohamed Elyounoussi equalized things again in the final phase (86th).

Group F: Belgium secures first place

Thanks to a clear win against Azerbaijan, Belgium secured group victory in Pool F. Coach Domenico Tedesco’s team beat Austria, who also qualified, with a 5-0 win in Brussels. The big figure was Romelu Lukaku. The AS Roma striker put together a four-pack with goals in the 17th, 26th, 30th and 37th minutes. For the guests from Azerbaijan, Eddy Israfilov was shown a yellow-red card after just 24 minutes. Leandro Trossard was worried about the final result shortly before the final whistle.

In the meaningless last game between Sweden and Estonia, the Scandinavians won 2-0 at home in Solna against the guests coached by Swiss Thomas Häberli. Victor Claesson headed (22nd) and Emil Forsberg (55th) scored for the Swedes.
