European Championship Round of 16
Which channel broadcasts which game?
The knockout phase of the European Football Championship is finally beginning – and on Saturday the German national team will face Denmark. Which channel is broadcasting what?
The group phase of the European Football Championship is already history and the round of 16 matches have been finalised since late Wednesday evening. It all starts on Saturday, June 29th, at 6 p.m. with Switzerland’s match against defending champion Italy in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. On the same day, the German national team will face Denmark. Two more matches will follow every day until Tuesday, July 2nd. But which channel will broadcast which game? Will all duels be shown on free TV or will certain games only be shown on MagentaTV? An overview:
All round of 16 matches at a glance
Saturday, 29 June, 6 p.m.: Switzerland vs. Italy on RTL
Saturday, 29 June, 9pm: Germany vs Denmark on ZDF
Sunday, 30 June, 6pm: England vs Slovakia on ZDF
Sunday, 30 June, 9pm: Spain against Georgia on ARD
Monday, 1 July, 6 p.m.: France vs. Belgium on ZDF
Monday, 1 July, 9pm: Portugal against Slovenia on ARD
Tuesday, 2 July, 6 p.m.: Romania against Netherlands on ARD
Tuesday, 2 July, 9 p.m.: Austria vs. Türkiye on MagentaTV
This means that the public broadcasters will share six of the eight matches between them: three on ARD and three on ZDF. One match will be shown exclusively by the Telekom streaming service MagentaTV, which acquired the rights to all European Championship matches in advance. The first round of 16 match on Saturday will also be broadcast by MagentaTV in cooperation with RTL on the Cologne-based private broadcaster on free TV.
The expert crews for the individual matches have also already been decided. For example, ZDF presenter Jochen Breyer (41) will greet the spectators from the European Championship studio in Berlin for the match between Germany and Denmark. At his side, national soccer player Laura Freigang (26) will provide the necessary expert know-how. Presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein (58) will then report from the Dortmund stadium with soccer world champions Per Mertesacker (39) and Christoph Kramer (33). Oliver Schmidt (52) will commentate on the German round of 16 match.
Where will a possible quarter-final and semi-final with German participation come from?
By the way: All quarter-final matches of the European Football Championship in Germany will take place next Friday and Saturday. What is already certain is that if Germany beats its opponent Denmark, the DFB team will face the winner of the match between Spain and Georgia in Stuttgart on Friday, July 5th at 6 p.m. This match would then most likely be broadcast on Das Erste, as ARD has priority in the quarter-finals. ZDF would then again be able to select a match for the semi-finals: if Germany advances, they would play in Munich on Tuesday, July 9th at 9 p.m. The final on July 14th in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium will then again be broadcast on Das Erste.
