Kick-off for the European Football Championship: the tournament started on June 11th in Rome with a brief opening ceremony.

The European Football Championship began in Rome on the evening of June 11th. In a short opening ceremony before kick-off, several stars got in the mood for the tournament, the final of which will be played in London on July 11th. First of all, the two former Italian football professionals Francesco Totti (44) and Alessandro Nesta (45) welcomed the fans in the stadium and in front of the TV sets in proper style.

Fireworks and digital presence

In the only 15 minutes of the celebration, dancers entered the lawn with large balloons that were supposed to represent the participating teams – drummers floating in the air provided the background music. The Italian star tenor Andrea Bocelli (62) then sang a moving version of Giacomo Puccini’s “Nessun dorma”. The appearance culminated in an impressive fireworks display on the roof of the stadium.

Before the kick-off for the opening game between Turkey and Italy, there was also a virtual appearance that resembled a music video. The Dutch producer and DJ Martin Garrix (25) performed the official EM anthem “We Are The People” together with Bono (61) and The Edge (59) from U2.
