European elections: discover the 37 candidate lists for the June 9 ballot


Thirty-seven lists are candidates for the European elections on June 9 in France, three more than in 2019 and a new record. Political headliners, defenders of the environment or workers, regulars at the polls or illustrious unknowns, here is a non-exhaustive overview of what you need to know about these candidacies published on Saturday in the Official Journal.

Poll favorites

National gathering

The president of the RN Jordan Bardella, leading the 2019 poll (23.3%), is the big favorite in the polls, exceeding 30% of voting intentions.

Renaissance, Modem, Horizons

Valérie Hayer, president of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament and candidate of the Macronist majority, receives around 16% of voting intentions, the majority having obtained 22.4% of the votes in 2019.

Socialist Party and Public Square

The social democratic essayist Raphaël Glucksmann (6.2% in 2019) is hot on the heels of Valérie Hayer in the polls.

The challengers

Rebellious France

This is the second European election for MEP Manon Aubry, former spokesperson for the NGO Oxfam, as head of the Insoumis list (6.3% in 2019).

The Republicans

LR reappointed conservative philosopher and MEP François-Xavier Bellamy (8.5% in 2019).

The Ecologists (ex-EELV)

Lawyer and MEP Marie Toussaint has the difficult task of succeeding Yannick Jadot, third in 2019 (13.5%).

Reconquest!

Marion Maréchal makes her return to politics as head of the list of Éric Zemmour’s party.

French Communist Party

Léon Deffontaines, spokesperson for Fabien Roussel in the 2022 presidential election, will have to do better than the 2.5% in 2019.

Environmental defenders

Ecology at the center

The head of the list is Jean-Marc Governatori, candidate in the environmentalist primary for the 2022 presidential election (2.35% of the vote).

Positive ecology and territories

The center-right coalition brings together six parties behind Yann Wehrling, vice-president of the Île-de-France regional council, including CAP21, the party of former minister Corinne Lepage.

Equinox

It is the engineer Marine Cholley who heads the list of this party “launched by young people” which advocates the exit from fossil fuels.

Change Europe

This collective is led by MEP Pierre Larrouturou and his Nouvelle Donne movement, and the small Allons Enfants party.

Animalist Party

The party, already led by lawyer Hélène Thouy in 2019, created a surprise with 2.2% of the vote.

The sovereignists

The Patriots

The president of the party Florian Philippot and Jean-Frédéric Poisson, at the head of the Via movement, are leading a sovereignist coalition for France’s exit from the EU and NATO.

Republican Popular Union

The president of the UPR François Asselineau defends “Frexit”, France’s exit from the European Union.

We the people

Behind Georges Renard-Kuzmanovic, President of the Sovereign Republic, this list denounces “supranational structures” like the EU and NATO.

The left of the left

Workers’ struggle

The Trotskyist party presents itself with its spokesperson Nathalie Arthaud, head of the list since 2009.

New anti-capitalist party-Revolutionaries

This branch, resulting from the split of the New Anticapitalist Party (NPA) in 2022, is headed by Selma Labib, bus driver, and Gaël Quirante, trade unionist at La Poste.

Workers’ Party

The slogan of the Trotskyist party, led by Camille Adoue, 23 years old: “for bread, peace, freedom!”

Some other lists

Rural Alliance

The list is led by former presidential candidate Jean Lassalle (Resistons party), and the president of the National Hunters Federation Willy Schraen.

Europe Territories Ecology

The list of Guillaume Lacroix, president of the Radical Left Party, also includes Regions and Peoples in Solidarity, the Progressive Movement, the Citizens’ Movement, the Collective of Reforming Social Democrats and Volt France.

Defend children

This is the list of the president of the Parent and Child Rights association Gaël Coste-Meunier.

Europe Democracy Esperanto

Behind its vice-president Laure Patas d’Illiers, the movement, present in the European Union since 2004, wants to have Esperanto adopted as the common language of the European Union.

Free Palestine

The list is led by Nagib Azergui, president of the Union of French Muslim Democrats (UDMF), who had already participated in 2019 (0.13%).

Pirate Party

The party, present in the 2014 and 2019 elections, claims to defend individual freedoms, in particular freedom of expression on the Internet. Lawyer Caroline Zorn, municipal councilor in Strasbourg, is head of the list.

Free France

The singer Francis Lalanne and the controversial comedian Dieudonné, convicted 31 times in particular for racial insults and incitement to hatred, present their list as “an alternative to political dictatorship”.
