France Identity has just added a new string to its bow at the end of last week. Since April 12, 2024, the application has made it possible to make a proxy for the next European elections “without going to a police station or gendarmerie brigade”, announced Gérald Darmanin on Twitter/X.
In detail, the government first asks you to register your power of attorney on the site maprocuration.gouv.fr. In particular, it will be necessary to provide the identity of the mandated person using their voter number, date of birth, marital status or even their municipality of residence.
Then, France Identity will come into play for the applicant to authenticate themselves in order to confirm their power of attorney request.
Please note, the government website specifies that “the user only has 20 minutes to verify their identity with France Idété”. If this deadline is exceeded, he must “must have his identity verified by an authorized authority (police officer, gendarme, consular agent) to validate his power of attorney”.
If the authentication period is respected, all you have to do is wait for the receipt of an email validating the creation of the power of attorney. From then on, the proxy will only have to go to the applicant’s polling station on the day of the European elections to cast their vote.
For information, the process will only work if the applicant’s France Identity digital identity has been certified. To do this, you must go to an authorized town hall after having created an account and imported your identity card into the application.
