The gap is widening further in view of the European elections in June between the National Rally and the camp of President Emmanuel Macron, with the list of Jordan Bardella which is 14 points ahead of that of Valérie Hayer. The candidate of the presidential party has not yet succeeded in winning the hearts of these partners of the majority.

Two months before the European elections, the majority candidate, Valérie Hayer, is struggling to take off in the polls. The gap with the National Rally, at the top of voting intentions, is 14 points apart, according to a Toluna-Harris Interactive poll published on Wednesday. Despite Emmanuel Macron’s pressure, Renaissance parliamentarians are having a hard time really campaigning.

No campaign axes?

Between Valérie Hayer and the Renaissance deputies, it is difficult to speak of a real symbiosis. Unknown to the general public until a few weeks ago, the candidate is also not very familiar with the group in the Assembly. Hence the lack of enthusiasm of certain parliamentarians to campaign. “It’s often limited to one hour on the market and a photo on Twitter,” quips a Renaissance MP who regrets the lack of communication between the party and the group. “There are no real campaign axes,” laments a regular on television.

Emmanuel Macron’s authority in question

Emmanuel Macron has nevertheless tried to mobilize his troops in recent months. But his authority seems to be disintegrating. “It doesn’t make you want it as much as before,” concedes a historical walker. Many criticize him for his absence during the last legislative campaign and therefore feel less indebted.

In the meantime, Jordan Bardella is stabilizing around 30% of voting intentions in the polls. “If we leave it there, it would be an explosion,” confides a member of the majority who anticipates the consequences of such a gap. Everyone would then feel much freer to free themselves from the supervision of the president.
