Two German films are entering the race for the European Film Prize 2020. The love drama "Undine" by director Christian Petzold (60) and the literary adaptation "Berlin Alexanderplatz" by Burhan Qurbani (39) have a chance of being named "Best Film". The European Film Academy announced on Tuesday (November 10th). Both films are ZDF / ARTE co-productions.

As the title-giving main character "Undine", actress Paula Beer (25) can also hope for the award for "Best Actress". She gets competition from Nina Hoss (45) and her acting skills in the drama "Little Sister". "Berlin Alexanderplatz" director Burhan Qurbani and Martin Behnke (42) have been nominated together in the "Best Screenplay" category.

The 33rd European Film Awards should actually have been presented in Iceland in 2020. However, due to the corona pandemic, the event was canceled. Instead, the winners will be announced virtually from December 8th to 12th.
