European Football Championship “Germany – Denmark”
ZDF is pleased with clear ratings victory in the round of 16
Germany’s victory in the round of 16 against Denmark also brought dream ratings for ZDF – around 23.65 million people watched on TV.
Even a rainy evening in Dortmund and a briefly interrupted game could not stop the German national team: Julian Nagelsmann’s (36) team was able to celebrate a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Denmark and their place in the European Championship quarter-finals. But the match also brought fantastic TV ratings to ZDF.
According to AGF video research This time, 23.65 million people aged three and over watched the game in the traditional way on ZDF from 9 p.m. These are slightly lower ratings than for the match against Switzerland last Sunday and the group match against Hungary on June 19 – but this may be explained by the good weather in parts of Germany. Sports bars and public viewing are not included in the ratings.
With 76.8 percent of the market share, ZDF is – not surprisingly – the clear winner. Among 14- to 49-year-olds, the figure was 86.3 percent – the best result for a 9 p.m. game at this European Championship.
RTL is pleased with ratings for Italy-Switzerland match
RTL also enjoyed record ratings for the broadcast of the round of 16 match between Switzerland and the reigning European champions Italy at 6 p.m.: almost half of the TV audience tuned in to the match – in the first half there were 6.65 million viewers (45.5 percent market share) and in the second half 8.84 (46.3 percent). Among the younger audience of 14 to 49 year olds, RTL even achieved 59 percent of the market share.
Who will Germany face in the quarter-finals?
This Sunday evening it will be decided who the German national team will face in the quarter-finals next Friday (5 July). From 9 p.m. title contender Spain and outsider Georgia will fight for a place in the quarter-finals in Cologne (live from 8:15 p.m. on Das Erste).
Germany’s quarter-final match next week (5 July, kick-off at 6 p.m.) will also be broadcast live by ARD (from 5:05 p.m. on Das Erste and in the ARD Mediathek). Esther Sedlaczek (38) will present the match together with Bastian Schweinsteiger (39). Gerd Gottlob (59) will be the match’s reporter, supported by co-commentator Thomas Hitzlsperger (42).
