BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Europe’s second-highest court will rule on September 14 on Alphabet group-owned Google’s challenge to a record 4.34 billion euro antitrust fine imposed by the European Union for having used its Android mobile operating system to its advantage in order to eliminate its rivals.

The judgment of the Luxembourg-based court comes ten months after the world’s most popular Internet search engine lost its fight in the same court against a fine of 2.42 billion euros in another case. Google appealed the decision.

During a five-day hearing last year, Google called the European Commission’s fine as staggering and inappropriate.

A court spokesperson confirmed the date. This is case T-604/18 Google v European Commission.

Over the past ten years, the American online services giant has racked up more than €8 billion in antitrust fines in the EU.

EU antitrust authorities are currently investigating Google over its use of data and an online advertising pact with Facebook.
