Escape games, video mapping, concerts, school performances: for one evening, this Saturday, May 13, the European Night of Museums aims to show that museums are essential players in the animation of territories. This particular annual evening, when the museums open until late at night, attracts many visitors each time. More than 1,300 places in France and nearly 2,000 places in Europe (excluding France) are affected by this 19e editing.

Already, 3,200 museums in 30 European countries including Russia took part last year in this project placed under the aegis of UNESCO and the Council of Europe. Some countries are more represented than others, like Italy and Greece. The European success is confirmed for this initiative born in France: in 2005, 450 museums outside France joined; today, half of the participating establishments are outside our borders. The Ministry of Culture and Communication provides an interactive map to list all the events of the European Night of Museums.

Special programs

In Paris, the most beautiful museums will be honored during the event. At the Center Pompidou, pupils from the Lagarche elementary school are thus invited to imagine a mediation project around modern and contemporary art. In Lyon, the Museum of Contemporary Art offers a concert in the hall with a rap program that puts the body in the spotlight. In Marseille, the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (Mucem) is exceptionally open until 11:59 p.m.
