The Paris Stock Exchange ended down 0.09% on Wednesday, continuing to evolve in weak trends, slightly cooled by the poorly received results of Microsoft in the United States.

The star CAC 40 index fell 6.60 points to 7,043.88 points. He had finished the last three sessions up slightly, the last by 0.26%.

The Parisian rating had opened at equilibrium, but quickly took the path of decline. She even hit the 7,000 point mark before bouncing back.

“There is no theme that imposes itself on the others”, and would make it possible to initiate a clear sequence, upwards and downwards, observes Alexandre Baradez, analyst at IG. However, he finds it “healthy” that the market does not continue its mad ascent at the start of the year, the CAC 40 still rising by 8.81% since January 1.

Investors expect the US Federal Reserve to confirm a shift to looser monetary policy, similar to that made by the Central Bank of Canada on Wednesday, but they should wait for confirmation at the meeting next week. .

On the business results side, still mainly in the United States, the whole is also “mixed”, with rising turnover but falling profits, elements expected for a few months by the markets, notes Mr. Baradez .

Microsoft threw a chill on the American markets with its poorly received results, leading to a sharp drop in the Wall Street indices at the time of the Paris closing, but, once again, the European stock markets held up better. The technology sector however suffered, such as Dassault System (-1.79% to 34.11 euros), Capgemini (-0.75% to 171.85 euros), or even Teleperformance (-1.03% to 249.00 euros).

On the bond market, the yield rate on the 10-year French government bond remained stable at 2.59%.

Alstom and its objectives on track

The railway manufacturer saw its turnover and its order intake increase in the third quarter of its staggered 2022/23 financial year, deemed “positive”, which allows it to confirm its forecasts.

Oddo BHF sees it as a “reassuring publication” and considers in a note that “the performance of the stock since the start of the year suggests that today’s good publication was anticipated”. After a sharp rise in the start of the session, the stock finally fell 0.97% to 26.45 euros. Since the beginning of the year, it has taken almost 16%.

The AMF will temporarily close the State’s takeover bid on EDF

The Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) will close the State’s takeover bid for EDF’s capital on February 3, according to a notice published on Wednesday. The takeover bid will be reopened for 10 days if the Paris Court of Appeal, currently seized by an appeal from small shareholders, validates the AMF’s compliance decision. If the court cancels the decision, the State has undertaken to “return the securities acquired” to the former shareholders “who request it”.
