European stock markets were reassured on Thursday by the European Central Bank (ECB), interpreting its message at the end of its meeting as the beginning of a shift in the direction of a more flexible monetary policy.

The Frankfurt Stock Exchange gained 2.16%, Paris 1.26%, London 0.76% after holding a wait-and-see position at the start of the week.
