On Tuesday, the National Republican Nomination Commission is due to meet to decide on the party’s official list for the European elections. And the first headache for LR is to decide the Nadine Morano case. Former minister, very identified with the French by her speech on immigration and security, she is seen by some as an asset against Jordan Bardella and Marion Maréchal, while others consider her too caricatured. Several executives also fear its power of nuisance in the event of absence on the list.
What about the Hortefeux case?
According to the wishes of Eric Ciotti, this list must be geographically representative of France and equal. It could thus be supplemented among women by outgoing MEPs like Nathalie Colin Oesterlé and Anne Sander.
Among the men, the possible presence of Brice Hortefeux strongly divides internally. Historical Sarkozyste, close to Laurent Wauquiez, he is for many the symbol of a bygone era on the right. For this place, the president of the Young Republicans Guilhem Carayon, the outgoing MEP Geoffroy Didier, or the close friend of Gérard Larcher, Patrick Dray are in the running.
The order will be decisive in knowing the chances of each candidate of being elected. If the polls remained there, LR could send between 7 and 8 deputies to the European Parliament.
