Eurovision 2022: which country holds the record for winning the competition?

On the occasion of the broadcast of the Eurovision final on Saturday May 14, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on France 2, Télé Star reveals to you which nation has been the most successful in the competition since its creation.

After winning the 2nd edition of the show Eurovision France, you decide, Alvan & Ahez will represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest finalwhich will be broadcast on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on France 2. This duo of artists was elected by the French public in front of nearly 1.5 million viewers, who gathered on the antenna of the public channel on Saturday March 5, 2022. At the controls of the show Eurovision France, you decide, the animatorsStephane Bern andLaurence Boccolini will officiate in the comments of this event, which had to be canceled in 2020 because of the health crisis.

Since Italy won last year, the 2022 edition of theEurovision will take place in Turin. Alvan & Ahez will therefore try to become the 6th representatives of France to win the singing competition. They would thus become the first to win since 1977. At the time, it was Marie Myriam who had been crowned thanks to the song The Bird and the Child. In case of victory of Alvan & Ahez, France would gain a place in the classification of theEurovision. As a reminder, Barbara Pravi finished 2nd in the 2021 edition.

Eurovision 2022: a 6th French victory after 45 years of scarcity?

Currently, France is ranked 3rd with 5 victories to its credit (1958, 1960, 1962, 1969 and 1977). A place it occupies on an equal footing with Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. A 6th victory with Alvan & Ahez this year would allow the country to pass 2nd, tied with Sweden. For its part, the Scandinavian nation will have the opportunity to return to equality with Ireland, who holds the winning record Eurovision. In total, the country has won the competition 7 times since its inception. Also participating in theEurovision 2022Ireland could therefore improve on this record, and thus outpace its main competitors.
