The online voting has started. From now on, it can be voted on which of the six acts for Germany should go to the ESC in Turin.

Who is going to the ESC in Turin for Germany? The next stage in the new selection process has been reached. After the pre-selection of the six music acts by the expert jury, which was announced on February 10th, the audience is now asked:

Online voting for the act that will represent Germany at ESC 2022 began on Monday (28 February). Users can now choose their favorites on the online pages of the nine ARD radio stations (pop waves). The votes from this voting influence the result by 50 percent, the other 50 percent is decided by the television audience in the TV show “Germany 12 Points – the German ESC preliminary decision”.

There are six acts to choose from

Emily Roberts with “Soap”

The British-German musician Emily Roberts (28) lives in Berlin and makes “happy songs” and “perfect pop music”, as she called it at the presentation at a press conference in mid-February. The self-confident and charismatic artist tours with James Blunt (48) and has already gained a lot of live experience. Jungle camp fans know her voice because her song “In This Together” was the title song of the 14th season of the RTL show “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here!” in 2020.

Felicia Lu with “Anxiety”

The Viennese Felicia Lu (26) was already in 2017 at the German preliminary round. “I’ve made music my profession in the meantime,” said the passionate full-blooded musician. She shot and edited the video clip for her new song alone because she had tested positive for the corona virus shortly before the official shoot.

Malik Harris with “Rock Stars”

Malik Harris (24) from Landsberg am Lech would like to go to Turin with his rap song. He is the son of moderator Ricky Harris (59). Before deciding on music, Malik wanted to be a professional soccer player. He wasn’t good enough, as he admitted at the presentation – musically it’s different.

Eros Atomos with “Alive”

A newcomer is Eros Atomos (20) from Flensburg, who accompanies his “lively, fresh and encouraging” song with the guitar. The special thing: he also drums on the instrument – so he was able to stand out from his eleven siblings, as he said.

Maël & Jonas with “I Swear To God”

The entertaining Koblenz duo Maël & Jonas also want to go to the ESC in Turin. Their song is about making amends, is “energetic” and emotional, as the two very different musicians explained with amusement.

Nico Suave & Team Liebe with “Hello World”

A band consisting of four musicians from Hamburg and Berlin also made it into the selection: Nico Suave & Team Liebe focus on “optimism, authenticity and positive thinking” with their song.

What’s next?

The next date in the new selection process for the German ESC representative is March 4th, the “big ARD ESC day”, at the end of which the decision should be made.

In the evening, the ESC selection process is broadcast on television for the first time. All third programs of the ARD will broadcast the show “Germany 12 Points – the German ESC preliminary decision” live from Berlin at 8:15 p.m. At the same time, the program can be seen on eurovision.de and in the ARD media library. In the show, the candidates present their songs on stage. It can be tuned further.

At the end of the evening, presenter Barbara Schöneberger (47) will choose the artist or band with the most voting points as the winner. The winner will then represent Germany at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. The final of the upcoming ESC will take place on May 14, 2022 from 9 p.m. in Turin, Italy. The two semi-finals are scheduled for May 10 and 12 at 9 p.m.

The Italian rock band Maneskin prevailed last year with their song “Zitti e buoni” and brought the competition to Italy. The German representative Jendrik Sigwart (27) finished second to last at the ESC 2021 in Rotterdam.
