The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 should take place with an audience. Up to 3,500 spectators are to be admitted.

The Dutch government has declared the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam to be a test case and wants to allow an audience. The announced the organizers and welcomed the decision. A total of nine shows, including six public rehearsals, two semi-finals and the final from May 18th to 22nd, should be allowed to seat up to a maximum of 3,500 spectators in the hall. This corresponds to about half of the actual capacity.

The government in The Hague wants to test at the ESC within which framework large events with an audience can be carried out safely. Every spectator who wants to go into the hall must be able to show a negative corona test. According to matching media reports an exact sequence of the test scenario is to be worked out in the coming days. A final decision as to whether the ESC can then also be implemented with an audience as planned should be made at the end of April.

However, due to current travel restrictions, it is assumed that only Dutch viewers can be admitted. Should the corona pandemic gain the upper hand again by the finale, it could also be that the ESC will have to do without spectators again.

In 2020 the singer Ben Dolic (23) should have represented Germany with the song “Violent Thing” at the ESC. Due to the pandemic, however, the event was completely canceled. He decided not to participate again last November. This year the 26-year-old singer Jendrik Sigwart competes for Germany with his song “I Don’t Feel Hate”.
