Eurozone: manufacturing contraction slows (PMI)

(CercleFinance.com) – The PMI index for the manufacturing industry of the eurozone remained unchanged below 50 in December 2022, but recovered slightly from 47.1 in November to 47.8, thus highlighting a slowdown in the contraction at the end of the year.

S&P Global, which calculates this index, highlights an easing of inflationary pressures and more stable conditions in supply chains. Reflecting the continued weakness in customer demand, however, the volume of new orders fell.

“The number of companies surveyed anticipating an increase in their activity over the next twelve months exceeded for the first time since August the number of those anticipating a decline,” said Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&P Global.
