(Boursier.com) — Eutelsat has ended operations on its Eutelsat 113 West A satellite, following an anomaly that occurred on January 31. Launched in 2006 and operating in an orbit inclined at the position 113 degrees West, Eutelsat 113 West A (formerly Satmex 6) provided coverage of the American continent in C and Ku bands, to serve customers in the fields of video, data and government services on 18 operational transponders. Operations are underway to minimize disruption to customers, including an accelerated transfer to alternative capacity on satellites located at positions 115 and 117 degrees West. Eutelsat “reaffirms its commitment to a safe and sustainable space environment. This is how the teams are making all possible efforts to mitigate potential negative consequences on the security of the orbit,” adds the group.
Approaching the end of its life, the satellite is no longer covered by the in-orbit insurance policy. The mechanical impact on turnover of the unavailability of the satellite is approximately 3 million euros for the financial year 2024 and 5 to 6 million euros per year for the period 2025-28, before measures mitigation. This does not change the group’s financial objectives for the 2024 financial year.
