Lhe cry of alarm came from the European Parliament when the French deputy Christophe Grudler discovered, on July 26, that the operator Eutelsat intended to buy OneWeb, a consortium owned by an Indian company (Bharti Enterprises) and the British government. On paper, it’s a great acquisition. OneWeb already has more than 400 mini-satellites in orbit around the Earth and is developing a satellite Internet activity which would wisely relaunch Eutelsat, which specializes in satellite television, an activity which has little future.
Where is the problem and how is Europe affected? Via OneWeb, Eutelsat marries the British State, a player that is no longer in the EU. The United Kingdom would indeed retain shares in the newly formed group.
