Eva Habermann: She struggled with depression and alcohol problems

Eva Habermann has struggled with depression and excessive alcohol consumption in the past.

Actress Eva Habermann (44, "Mara and the Fire Bringer") looks back on a difficult phase in her life in an interview with "Bunte" magazine. Because she was lovesick, she drank too much alcohol and later volunteered to be hospitalized for depression.

"I didn't want to feel anything after breaking up with my ex-boyfriend because the pain was so great," says the actress, who describes herself as "incredibly emotional". She was lonely and never left the house. "I just cried and got drunk. You are then tied to the addiction, and over time you feel more and more worthless." She was "caught in a vicious circle". First you drink to be in a better mood, but at some point you realize that you need a wine by noon. "It's faster than you think. Precisely because it is socially acceptable."

In her depression, she got help and went to a psychosomatic clinic in 2014 because of depression. "I can only recommend it to everyone, because the people with the problems are outside. Inside are the people who reflect and want to change something," says Habermann.

A journey opened her eyes

She stayed in the clinic for six weeks, then spent four weeks with orphans in Haiti and lived with nuns in a monastery. "It opens your eyes a lot when you see people who have much worse problems than you are." Today Habermann can concentrate on the "two big loves" in her life: life partner Alexander König, with whom she has been in a relationship for four years, and filmmaking.

In her self-produced film "The True Beauty", Habermann embodies a woman who is addicted to alcohol and pills and wants to shake up the subject because of her own background. She consciously gained 15 kilos for the role. "I want the audience to suffer. I want people to feel that this woman wants to be strong, but has lost control of herself through alcohol and pills."
