The Eve Smart Home is one of the many different smart home systems on the market that you can use to make your home smart. You can automate lighting, temperature control, security devices and more in your smart home and operate the devices of your choice centrally via your smartphone or via voice control.

The company behind Eve’s products is the German company Eve Systems, which has its headquarters in Munich. You have been able to buy the provider’s smart devices since 2014, which include smart thermostats and smart lamps.

Eve Smart Home: what is it and what does it offer?

With various smart devices, Eve offers everything you need to make your home future-proof. What does that mean? This allows you to operate many devices at home particularly conveniently, coordinate individual devices with each other and, in the best case, even save energy and therefore money. Some Eve devices make your home safer, others are used for entertainment or do housework for you.

Like many other smart home systems, Eve’s products can be connected to selected products from other providers. If you are looking for a smart home that also works offline, Eve is also the right place. You can connect most devices directly to each other locally, without the need for an internet connection.

Eve offers many different smart home products that are also known from other manufacturers. If you want to heat cleverly, you will find good solutions in Eve’s smart thermostats, window and door contacts and air sensors. There are smart sockets as well as surveillance cameras, the so-called Eve Cams.

You can also ensure safety with the smart water detectors, which inform you in good time about water damage. Eve offers various smart lamps and light switches as well as its own roller shutter control and outdoor light camera.

Speaking of outside: Since 2018, Eve has even offered its own smart irrigation system for the garden, Eve Aqua. With the Eve outdoor cameras and the smart weather station from Eve, you can even expand your smart home to include a “smart garden”. However, you won’t find a starter kit or a hub like other providers sell at Eve.

Supported wireless standards and compatible devices

Eve devices use either Apple HomeKit or Matter to communicate with other devices. Products that support these standards can therefore usually be easily integrated into an Eve Smart Home. Since Matter can be combined with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung Smart Things, popular products such as the Amazon Echo Dot or Google Nest speakers can also be integrated into the Eve setup.

Radio standards such as Bluetooth and WLAN are also used for communication, which are probably the most common types of networking. Since the setup is quite simple, Eve’s products are an ideal introduction for anyone who has previously had little to do with smart home technology.

What do I need to set up an Eve Smart Home?

Since Eve Systems says it does not use a bridge or hub, you can easily operate the devices of your choice individually. You don’t need any basic equipment, you can simply start with the devices that you would like to have in your smart home.

Once you have found at least one suitable device, all you have to do is set it up at home as described in the instructions and download the Eve app. You register it there and you’re done.

You can now control it via the app or set up voice control for selected devices. The Eve app is available free of charge for iOS. There is no official alternative for Android, but unofficial alternatives can be found in the Google Play Store that sometimes work more and sometimes less. Please note, however, that you always download and use such third-party solutions at your own risk.

Siri in the test: Hey Siri, hello light?

In 2011, Apple brought the voice assistant Siri to its iPhones. In the years that followed, Siri also migrated to almost all other Apple devices. Time to see what Siri has to offer today.

Amazon Alexa in the test: Everything with skills

Alexa dominates the voice assistant market. With the introduction of Amazon’s first Echo speaker, their popularity has steadily increased. It’s time to take stock of Alexa.

Google Assistant in the test: Always close to you

The Google Assistant is intended to support you in everyday life and learn more and more over time. Integrated into Android devices, speakers and televisions, it should make your life easier. We test whether this is true.

Remote control via Apple products

If you want to control your devices remotely, you will inevitably need a control center. Since Eve does not offer its own alternative in this regard, Apple’s products are used for this. This could be, for example, Apple TV, an Apple HomePod or the Apple HomePod Mini.

Individual Eve devices may also have certain requirements. We recommend that you take a look at the product description before purchasing or ask your trusted retailer about it.

Advantages and disadvantages of the provider Eve Systems

The Eve Smart Home impresses above all with its easy operation and broad compatibility with other devices. In particular, the connection to the universal Matter standard is a big plus. The selection of devices is also impressive.

It is surprising, however, that Eve relies heavily on the connection to Apple HomeKit. This is probably why the provider only provides an app solution for iPhone and iPad. Android users have to resort to unofficial and usually significantly worse designed apps.
