Evelyn Burdecki is in Leipzig, but her thoughts are with her parents, who are affected by the flood disaster.

The situation in western Germany is still devastating. According to media reports, the flood disaster has so far claimed more than 100 deaths and many people are missing. Evelyn Burdecki (32), who is currently taking part in the “Die RTL Sommerspiele” show in Leipzig, is with her parents in her thoughts during the sporting event that will take place on July 16 and 17. As she tells the station, these are also affected by the flood.

Your parents are “in shock”

“My parents are still in shock, I think like so many other people in Germany now”, explained Burdecki. It was particularly bad that she did not even reach her parents at first: “We did not know what was going on because the reception was also gone due to all the flooding.”

She then “found her parents in shock that morning in the house” and the water was everywhere. “That definitely got them down,” said Burdecki. Before going to Leipzig she helped and carried out buckets full of water. But she slipped on the stairs and injured her foot. Nevertheless, she competed in a long jump competition on Friday evening. With 2.44 meters, however, she did not make it to the final.

During the “Summer Games”, the broadcaster organized a competition on Friday evening in which viewers could take part via SMS. RTL would like to donate all the income generated by this to the victims of the flood disaster. In addition, viewers could donate directly via SMS.
