Even Iron Man fans don’t know this film: 14 years before Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. starred with Marisa Tomei in a charming romantic comedy

Focus on the excellent romantic comedy “Only You”, released in theaters in 1994, in which an adorable duo composed of Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei shines, long before they rubbed shoulders at Marvel.

The role for which Robert Downey Jr. is best known in the world today is obviously that of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. An iconic character that he could soon find again due to the crisis that Marvel is going through.

But during his storied career, Robert Downey Jr. has not only played the superhero in the MCU. The American actor thus played Chaplin and Sherlock Holmes, stood out in front of the cameras of David Fincher (Zodiac), Oliver Stone (Natural Killers) and Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), and made millions of spectators laugh with Tonnerre in the Tropics.

But did you know that Robert Downey Jr. also starred in a sparkling romantic comedy? It was in the mid-90s with Only You, a feature film in which he opposite… Marisa Tomei! And yes, many years before finding themselves in the credits of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, the interpreters of Tony Stark and Aunt May flirted on screen!

Released in theaters in 1994, Only You, directed by Norman Jewison (In the Heat of the Night, The Thomas Crown Affair, Hurricane Carter), tells the story of Faith (Marisa Tomei), a young and beautiful schoolteacher who believes in soul mates. She thinks she’s destined for the man named “Damon Bradley.”

A few days before marrying a man she doesn’t love, she receives a phone call from a friend of her fiancé, whose name just so happens to be Damon Bradley. She then decides to take advantage of the few days of freedom she has left to go in search of the man who may be her other half.

Avengers: if this Marvel heroine is in the film, it’s thanks to Robert Downey Jr.

Full of charm, Only You is a romantic comedy that you absolutely must (re)discover if you are a fan of the genre. Because it’s very simple: everything works in this light and refreshing bluette so successful that she sends her photos like a (love) letter in the post.

Original plot, tasty dialogues, marvelous landscapes of southern Italy… You will be won over by this unfairly overlooked little nugget that the interpretation of Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei ends up making particularly exquisite.

Robert Downey Jr. recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”:
