Even more branches from Aldi, Lidl and Co.: Discounters have big expansion plans


For new locations, one does not shy away from the implementation of lengthy projects. Among other things, kindergartens and apartments are being built in order to obtain approval for a new branch. Aldi and Lidl have significantly more leeway here than the smaller competitors for Penny or Netto.

However, the largest growth markets for the discounters are not in Germany. Lidl is currently still in a long growth process in the USA. The Schwarz subsidiary recently celebrated the opening of 12,000 branches worldwide. In Germany there are just 3242 of them.

Aldi Süd has already established itself in the USA. Nevertheless, 150 new locations are planned. There are also considerations for hundreds of new markets in China.
