Everwild: Still chaotic development according to Jeff Grubb


The latest news about Everwild, the next game of Rare, are not really the most reassuring. Earlier in the year, we learned that the project had been rebooted and started from scratch, while Rare had lost its creative director a few months before that. Despite reassuring comments from the management of Xbox Game Studios, Jeff grubb of Venture Beat comes today to counterbalance these statements and to affirm that no, the chaos described within the studio is not exaggerated.

A studio that doesn’t know where it’s going

In the last issue of the podcast XboxEra, relayed by Wccftech, Grubb gave himself up to several confidences, in particular on Project Missouri. He also took the opportunity to come back to Everwild, to confirm that Rare is currently in trouble with this project:

Everwild is a mess. They try to speak diplomatically about it, “Oh, people hear about it – the creative director leaves, things restart – and that’s overkill. It’s not that far-fetched. They rebooted this project and they don’t know exactly what to expect from it. They’re still trying to figure it out, and it’s a mess. […] It’s not just me using imagined descriptions, people who work on this game don’t really know what’s going on with this game.

So the direction of the project seems to be a problem, and according to Grubb, Rare doesn’t really seem to know what to do with the game. It also echoes the early feedback on the project, which described a team who had no idea what to do with the game. what the gameplay might look like.

With the reboot of the project, Everwild Seemed to be aiming for a 2024 release, but if Grubb’s words are true, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the project take even longer, provided it does come out well someday.
