“Everyone cried
Boris Becker shows emotional side in wedding interview
After his wedding with Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro, Boris Becker talks about his feelings on the big day – and afterwards.
After about a week of marriage, the Wimbledon hero spoke about his wedding: “It was authentic, it was real and it was a magical weekend that I will never forget,” revealed Boris Becker (56) exclusively to the British “Hello” magazineThe tennis star revealed the most emotional moments of his wedding with risk analyst Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro (33) in Italy.
“Everyone was crying, including me,” admitted the former professional athlete. “It’s one of the most romantic places I’ve been to,” Becker said of the wedding location in the small fishing village east of Genoa. “We live in Italy and were in Portofino a few times last summer. We could have chosen Venice, Rome or Lake Como, but our greatest bond was Portofino.” The newlyweds, who have been together since 2019, tied the knot on September 14 in front of 85 invited friends and family members and celebrated for three days. Vogue published the wedding photos.
“The place where the ceremony took place is, I think, one of the most unique places I’ve been to in my life – and believe me, I’ve been to a lot of beautiful places,” enthused the retired tennis player.
Prison strengthened their love
The former Wimbledon champion also told the British newspaper that his love for the Italian-born woman was cemented by his conviction for bankruptcy offenses in 2022. He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at the time and spent a total of eight months behind bars.
“As they say in wedding ceremonies, you have to find a way to stick together on good days and bad. We certainly had very difficult days because my personal situation was very challenging, but through this I really got to know my true friends and my partner for life,” Becker concluded. “Sometimes you have to be tested to find out who your true friends or partner are and that’s what happened to me. I realized who was with me and who wasn’t. Lilian was number one.”
The honeymoon will not begin until December
Becker added that married life already feels “wonderful” and that the highlight of the wedding for him was finally “calling Lilian his wife.” However, the honeymoon will only take place over the Christmas period as both are too busy at the moment.
This is already Boris Becker’s third marriage: he was married to Barbara Becker (57) from 1993 to 2001. They share two sons: Noah (30) and Elias Becker (25). In 2009 he married Lilly Becker (48). His third son, Amadeus (14), comes from this relationship. He also fathered a daughter, Anna Ermakova (24), with Russian-British model Angela Ermakova (56).
