Everyone has been moved – no more asylum seekers in Steyregger’s former hotel

The former CoHotel in Steyregg, which was used as asylum accommodation, has been in the headlines again and again recently. The building is now empty for the time being: the last young asylum seekers moved out of the accommodation on Thursday. However, the building remains the property of the BBU, which is responsible for refugee accommodation.

Steyregg’s mayor Gerhard Hintringer (SPÖ) announced this in an information letter to the population. It continues: “In recent weeks it has already become clear that the number of unaccompanied minor refugees in the CoHotel has declined sharply.” On Thursday, the last asylum seekers still living there were relocated and the accommodation was therefore “closed down”. Numerous operations The district has made headlines several times in recent months because of numerous police and fire brigade operations – the latter mostly triggered by deliberate false alarms. Mayor Hintringer then called a security summit, as a result of which the occupancy rate was halved and the number of care staff was increased. Building remains in BBU ownership Now Hintringer says about the “Krone”: The empty building remains the property of the Federal Agency for Care and Support Services (BBU) , which looks after asylum accommodation throughout Austria. It cannot therefore be ruled out that the district in Steyregg will be reopened at a later date.
