The awards for Sportswoman of the Year went to Mujinga Kambundji. The native of Bern excelled this year as indoor world champion over 60 m, European Championship gold winner over 200 m and European Championship silver winner over 100 m. She won with around a third of the votes ahead of the two skiers Corinne Suter and Lara Gut-Behrami. “I’m touched, it was an incredible year,” Kambundji looked back.

Double for men Marco Odermatt as athlete of the year after. He had received the award a year earlier. As the overall World Cup and Olympic champion, there was no way around the top skier from Nidwalden this year either, Simon Ehammer and Beat Feuz were left behind. “The support is extremely nice,” said Odermatt. “I’m pleased that we can share so many emotions with the many sports fans at home.”

Federer honored for outstanding career

His resignation announcement was the hammer sports message 2022 par excellence: With Roger Federer the greatest Swiss athlete to date retired from the professional stage at the Laver Cup at the end of September. At the “Sports Awards” 2022, the Basel bidder was honored for his fantastic career. Federer received the honorary award from Federal Councilor Viola Amherd. «Thank you very much for the great support I have received over the years in this country. That means a lot to me, »said Federer.

Nati and Hug also double

Also the second award in a row came Swiss national football team. The national team prevailed over the mixed mountain bike relay (WM gold) and the beach volleyball duo Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner (EM silver).

A “champion” is also Marcel Hug, who won the Para Athlete of the Year award for the 8th time. “I don’t take that for granted,” said the long-term winner and referred to the strong performances of other para athletes this year, including Catherine Debrunner and Manuela Schär, who were also nominated. “They would have deserved the award equally,” says Hug.

In the MVP election sat down Roman Josi with 49.5 percent of the votes clearly against handball player Kerstin Kündig and national captain Granit Xhaka. “That makes me extremely proud,” said Josi, who won the election for the second time after 2019.

Voted coach of the year Urs Fischer excellent. In his down-to-earth manner, the Union Berlin coach passed on the laurels: “It’s not just me, you also need a club that has your back, a team that pulls along, a staff that supports you.”
