everything you need to know before taking the plunge

Want to permanently get rid of facial hair? Opt for the laser hair removal option. Our expert explains everything he needs to know.

Facial hair can often be a source of complexes, especially when the down is quite dark. If you want to eliminate some unwanted chin hairs, a mustache, or mono eyebrows, without going through the razor and permanently, laser hair removal remains the best option. To learn a little more about this practice, Scarlette Sillam, expert at the center Lazeo of Paris explains the procedure and all that it entails.

The laser beam will target the hair and burn the bulb. Over the days, the hair will fall out and as the sessions progress, it will thin out to disappear completely. It is estimated that between 80 and 90% of the hairs are definitively eliminated at the end of the sessions. The hairs that remain are very fine and much less numerous”, says the expert.

Who is facial laser hair removal suitable for?

With the Clarity II laser from Lutronic laboratories, experts can depilate both light and dark skin, thanks to 2 wavelengths adapted to each. However, the laser is not for everyone, as Scarlett Sillam explains.

Down can’t be plucked. This can stimulate hair regrowth, it’s called paradoxical regrowth. It is therefore necessary to target only real dark hairs. For blond, red, very fine hair and for anyone not eligible for laser hair removal, you should instead turn to electric hair removal”.

Age is also a factor to consider. There is no real contraindication, but be aware that the face is a hormonal area that is not stabilized for around 20 years (or even longer in some cases). This is why Scarlett Sillam recommends not having laser hair removal before this age, or even later. “If we start early, we will have to do more sessions”, she specifies.

On average, for laser hair removal on the face, it takes 7 to 10 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart. The process takes about a year and a half.

The risks and contraindications of laser hair removal on the face

It is best to have laser hair removal in the winter. Indeed, the expert from the Lazeo center warns of a risk that may arise: “you should not have laser hair removal on your face if you are tanned. We risk being burned in the first degree”.

This method is also prohibited for pregnant women, who are breastfeeding and for all those who have been exposed to the sun during the weeks preceding the session.

After a laser hair removal session on the face

Scarlett Sillam recommends hydrating by putting on fairly greasy creams. Forget the razor during the process: you should not shave between sessions for laser hair removal on the face. If it is not disturbing for the other parts of the body, it is obligatory for the face. “If you really have a complex, remove your hair with tweezers”, advises the professional.
