Ewan McGregor: He'll be Obi-Wan Kenobi again this spring

The new "Star Wars" series from Disney + about Obi-Wan Kenobi will be filmed from March. The main actor Ewan McGregor has now announced.

A new live action "Star Wars" series from Disney + will feature Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is now also clear when production will start: Filming will start in March 2021, as leading actor Ewan McGregor (49) has now confirmed. He also spoke during an appearance on the "Graham Norton Show" about how much of him will be on display: "It's the Obi Wan Kenobi story," said McGregor. "It's not all with me, but it will certainly be a lot of me, which is good. We'll start shooting next March."

Alec Guinness was a role model

McGregor played the young Obi-Wan in the prequel trilogy from 1999 to 2005. In the TV show, the actor was also asked if he felt the need to be more like Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi, portrayed by Alec Guinness (1914-2000). The Hollywood star was 63 years old when the first "Star Wars" film was released in 1977.

"Yes," replied McGregor. When he was younger, the best part of the role was imagining how Alec Guinness would have played those scenes as a younger man. "It got me to see a lot of his early work – that I hadn't seen before – brilliant films, wonderful films." Now he is much closer to Guinness' age at that time: "And it will be my challenge to meet him somewhere. I love Alec Guinness. I never met him, but I love him through his work. And it's a great honor, too try to pretend to be like him. "

Just one season?

The new "Obi-Wan" series is said to take place between the events of "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars". The aim is to show how the Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi becomes the hermit Ben Kenobi. Ewan McGregor had previously revealed that only one season was planned: "As I understand it, it will be a stand-alone season," "Entertainment Tonight" quoted him as saying. When the first episode will start is not yet certain.
