Ruth Ospelt knows exactly what explosiveness is in today’s cellar duel between St. Gallen and Vaduz! The neighborhood derby has already moved the region between 2014 and 2017, when the Liechtensteiners played under her as president in the Super League.
The duels in Rheinpark were sold out, the games were close and competitive – and in most cases the little FCV was able to outsmart their “big brother”.
The record of the direct encounters in the Super League is still clearly in favor of the Vaduz team: 15 games, eight wins! The St. Gallen team were only successful three times, and the affiche ended in a draw three more times.
“The derby is one of the biggest games for us,” says Ospelt, adding: “I also have a good feeling for the next game against FCSG!”
“Confident for the final spurt”
The former president of many years is now following the development of FC Vaduz as a fan. On Wednesday she was in the stadium for the first time in a long time against Basel. Her loud “Hopp Vadoz”, for which she has become known, helped: A 0: 1 deficit ultimately turned into a 1: 1 and sometimes an important point for the final bill.
Regarding Vaduz’s catch-up in the relegation battle, she says: “You are playing an excellent second half of the season. Trainer Mario Frick does a fantastic job. “
People in Vaduz are used to life in the constant battle to stay in the league: “That’s why I think Frick’s team can deal with this pressure this year as well. I am confident for the final spurt. “
