Exail Technologies: a new order in Australia – 01/16/2024 at 6:12 p.m.


(AOF) – Exail Technologies announces that it has won a new order for its DriX autonomous surface drone for civil hydrography applications. The client is an Australian-based player specializing in maritime data collection which operates several vessels in different continents. After a first order for a DriX drone in the first half of 2023, it is equipping itself with a second DriX in order to increase the operational capabilities of its ships.

“This sale once again illustrates the trend of funds adopting drones to carry out missions to complement or replace ships,” underlines Exail Technologies.

Negotiations with manufacturers

On average, equipment manufacturers represent between 60 to 85% of the manufacturing cost price of a vehicle. According to the Federation of Vehicle Equipment Industries (Fiev) negotiations are very tense with manufacturers regarding the passing on of the increase in costs. The price increases concern electronic components, raw materials, such as steel, nickel, lithium or palladium, energy and transport. The equipment manufacturers mainly negotiate with Stellantis and Renault to set up indices to pass on the increases. They are also betting on innovation, differentiation, moving upmarket and internationalization.

Growing market and price tensions

According to SIA, global chip sales stood at $151.7 billion in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 23% year-on-year. Sales increased in all major regional markets and for all product categories. As global uncertainties, including the war in Ukraine and the health crisis, weigh on supply chains, demand for semiconductors continues to significantly exceed supply. Manufacturers Samsung and TSMC have announced that they will raise their prices, in a context where players in the sector have good room for maneuver and benefit from reinforced negotiating power. However, wage increases and component prices could weigh on future performance.
